The 2019 cruise MOOSE- GE has started on June 7th  on the Reseach Vessel  La Thalassa.

In the MOOSE project, the network of deep moorings is one of the main stakes of the implementation plan. Deep moorings are recovered and redeployed every 12 months . The maintenance of such equipment (physical sensors, currentmeters, sediment traps) requires important work performed by close collaboration between all the laboratories invoolved

In addition to that, deep CTDs transects going from 42N5E-Balearic Islands-Calvi-Nice are also performed during this cruise in order to calibrate mooring sensors, to sample on a larger (sub-basin) scale and to measure parameters only accessible with water samples (nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon, phytoplanktonic pigments, zooplankton nets…).

Works at sea :

1) Maintenance of seven moorings

 This maintenance involves TSO2 and current data recovery, collecting of particulate traps samples, repackaging of sensors (changing batteries and cleaning) and change of defective parts and sometimes anchor line.

2)  CTD profiles (CTDO2, L-ADCP, UVP)

This type of operation is used to measure parameters of T, S, O2, fluorescence, particle size abundance, zooplankton species image acquisition and measurement of current profiles. These profiles are performed from surface to bottom.

3) Collecting of sea water samples (surface to bottom)

Water samples are colected at 21 depths alongthe water column to measure relevant biogeochemical and biological parameters (dissolved oxygen, alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon , nutrients and chlorophyll pigments)..

4) Zooplankton net hauls
